Why Our Eggs?
Why our eggs?
Eggs are an all-natural source of high-quality protein with 13 essential vitamins, and minerals; all for 70 calories per large egg. Cost-effective and versatile, the unique nutritional composition of eggs can help meet a variety of nutrient needs of children through older adults. (Egg Nutrition Center). Eggs from hens raised exclusively on pasture may contain 1/3 less cholesterol, 1/2 less saturated fat, 2/3 more vitamin A, 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids, 3 times more vitamin E, and 7 times more beta carotene, compared to the U.S.D.A. nutrient data for commercial eggs (Mother Earth News).
If eggs are this good, shouldn’t you have the best eggs available? Then meet our fabulous hens who enjoy a life designed to produce the healthiest eggs. Our hens have not seen a cage (except for transport), they were raised in a sheltered coop with a tunnel to an outside play pasture until they were grown enough to enjoy their mobile coop (48’ x 20’). This coop is on skids that ease its movement to their new pasture buffet every 2 or 3 days. It is fascinating to watch their excitement on moving day, as they run ahead of the coop for the fresh pasture. The coop sides are always open, weather permitting, for them to go in and out as they desire. Our hens sleep at night to the sound of a frog symphony on the nearby billabong (spring-fed watering hole). They have run of the property, limited only by the predator protection of electric net fencing (which we move with them). If a hawk or turkey buzzard flies overhead one or more chickens will sound the alarm and they will all head for the safety of their coop, at the same time the Pyrenees Guard dogs will be barking a warning to leave their ladies alone.
Our hens have free choice feed at all times. Their big treats will be the occasional watermelon, pumpkin, or cabbage. They have never required or been given antibiotics or hormones. They love the naturally varied diet as they forage for seeds, green plants, insects, and worms through Aussie Acres. You will see and taste the difference in eggs from hens raised in such a humane and natural way. Their yokes will be bright orange, not a dull, pale yellow. You and your family deserve the pleasure of rich, nutrient laden, protein packed, quality eggs from hens raised on fresh pasture.
